Events promote Australia’s fast growing sports tech industry

Events that educate and connect Australia’s fast growing sports tech industry are being staged over the next two months, with the Australia Sports Tech Conference returning at the end of the month and the launch of a new future Future of Sport Masterclass.
The centrepiece of the 2023 Australia Sports Innovation Week - being held from Tuesday 29th August to Friday 1st September in Brisbane - the Australia Sports Tech Conference is the premier forum for industry professionals and executives interested in the role of data, digital and technology in the Australian and global sports, media and entertainment industry.
Offering two streams, the conference will include presentations from GameDay, Sportz Interactive, Swimming Australia, LIV Golf, Sportradar and the Japan Sport Council.
The latest annual Sports Innovation Report from the Australian Sports Technologies Network (ASTN) identified the nation’s sports tech industry as now being worth $4.25 billion, with an ecosystem of 758 companies employing over 13,438 people.
Speaking at the release of the report, ASTN Chair, Dr Martin Schlegel advised “rapid growth in sports tech is reshaping the sports industry as we know it, and unlocking new revenue streams.
“Australia’s sports tech sector has proved it has now moved out of its nascent stage as it goes head-to-head with Australia’s booming fintech sector. Australia continues to prove that it’s one of the world’s leaders and long-term pioneers in sports technology and innovation.”
Described as the “Southern Hemisphere’s largest and most respected sports technology experience”, the event was attended by more than 200 delegates in 2022. Organisers are anticipating larger numbers this year.
